In the Brooder
I bought 13 1-week-old chicks from a backyard chicken farm about 2 weeks ago. I drove to the farm personally and brought them home in a cat carrier
About 2 days later, one of them died, and within a few days 3 more had died. By then I figured out it was coccidiosis and started them on Corid and they stopped dying. Now they have lice, and two of them have swollen, red, watery eyes (which I'm still not sure is eye worm or something respiratory).
Is this normal? For chicks to get problems so quickly? They've had very little contact with the outside world and I keep their brooder clean, so I have a hard time believing that it's my fault. Should I try to send back the remaining chicks and get some replacements from a better breeder?
