Hi all,
looks like we have rooster in the brood! I thought I heard a cock-a doodle-do!!!
One of the Barred Rocks turned out to be a him, we think he is only 5 weeks old...
How old are they before they start?

Mine started crowing at about 5 or 6 weeks. I didn't want to believe that I had a boy in the group, but I did. It was obvious by about 3 months. (At least that's how long it took me, a chicken novice.) However, sometime after we culled the rooster, one of the pullets started crowing, and she hasn't stopped. She doesn't crow often, but she definitely crows. (And she's definitely a girl.)

thanks for that input...hhmmm....now I am not sure who is crowing!!!!

You can tell a barred rock roo by the color. He will be lighter than the pullets.

Here are mine at about 6 weeks or so. Notice the lighter colored roo.
