HI there -
So I had 2 geese then last year they managed to get a couple eggs to hatch before I snatched them up and now I have 2 ganders.... *sigh*
The youngster, Junior, is going through his first mating season, and has fought with dad a number of times while I have evolved ways to keep them separated that work the best.
Also, on occasion--such as when they got in the coop with the chickens--I have out of convenience grabbed them by low on the neck and fairly gently (I thought) pulled them forward until I could grab them by bodies to lift them up and remove.
But I recently noticed a slight "kink" in Junior's neck. Also his dad's. It is near or closer to the base of his neck. So, instead of a nice curve, sometimes I will see this little pivot spot. I don't know squat about goose physiology, but suspect they have something analogous to discs and maybe one got prolapsed? Is that a thing? Does not seem to cause discomfort, and is able to use neck normally. But, besides me not grabbing by neck at all anymore, I feel terrible. I guess am hoping this slight kink is normal for ganders or that it sometimes happens from fighting? But also am wondering if anything I need to do or could do to maybe help restore it?
Thanks in advance,
Richard
