Did I make my injured hen go broody???

My buff orp pullet that was injured appears to be recovering. Wounds are healing up nicely.

But she's just not wanting to do anything. I moved her to a crate in the coop yesterday, and she's sitting tight in the straw, just like a broody hen would. Granted her leg is still sore... In the house she spent a lot more time standing.

So could keeping her in a dark, warm spot in the house have kicked her into a broody cycle?

Is there some way to tell?

Hmmmmm, maybe.

You mentioned she's a pullet, has she been laying, yet? Buff orps are supposed to be one of those breeds that get broody.

Put a few golf balls or easter eggs in the cage with her (not under her) and see what she does. If she gathers them up and tucks them under herself - I'd say she's broody. If she ignores them - I'd say she's nursing her injuries.

Thanks - I'll put a few eggs out there and see what she does.

Today when I brought her in to clean the wounds she kept laying down and puffing up her feathers at me and giving me evil looks.

She is *totally* not interested in companionship from the other chickens, so I let the two that I had in with her go back into the main flock. She's also not very interested in eating or drinking. Also, she has not laid any eggs (she was injured Monday).
