Did I Make My Nesting Boxes Too High For My Silkie?

oh, yes, and use the hardware cloth over your window openings too- a raccoon can open a shut window and could get in. Actually- ANY opening needs to be covered, they can really squeeze in tight spots. If you check out the predator page, you'd be surprised what they can do and what defenses they can get through. Your best bet is to just plan on being prepared for all situations. You have the perfect set up, honestly! All you need to do now is get the right wire and you will rest easy.

Hi, Just put a short ramp up to one of the boxes, she'll figure it out. My silkie climbs a ladder to the top roost in our hen house and it is 6' off the floor. Good luck and great looking coop. Oh, by the way. I think its called chicken wire because a chicken is about the only creature that can't tear through it.

If she really can't reach it, just build some little steps for her leading up there. Just something in between to jump on, like a flower pot. 15 inches is fairly low, so she should be fine anyways.

Good idea - that's much better than tearing this thing apart!

Your chicken coop looks great!

I didn't know CHICKEN wire wasn't for chickens I learned that by reading this thread. (good to know) I have silkies and If they end up not being able to jump just line up spme bricks in front of them where they can use it as an step stool.
