Did Keith Richard's girlfriend transition to Ziggy Stardust, or was he/she just a late bloomer😣🐓

A year ago and a half ago, I REALLY wanted a classic rooster, like a nice Cornflake box Welsummer, to keep my 13 young pullets in line. Fast forward to the current day...2 of my 13 pullets turned out to be Roos...but not quite the homestead staple...both of my Silkie puff balls😶. Tried keeping both of them, because they were SUPER cute, but once that testosterone peaked my little Buff ball morphed into the Tasmanian devil, angrily plucking out the feathers, toes, skin, and hair of any living creature in his path, so we were lucky enough to find a farm who offered to rehome him. This spring we grabbed a young Production Blue cockerel from our local breeder as we are expanding our flock, along with a dozen two and six week old chicks. This was a splurge purchase of bucket list babies: Polish, speckled Sussex, salmon favorelles, etc. We figured out that the Golden laced Polish was likely a Roo at around 5-6 weeks based on behavior and feathering. Three Roos/24 hens😶

This morning, as I heard Keith Richards (formerly Petunia, then Percy, now Keith Richards for obvious reasons) baby crowing in our little grow out run, I heard something...a different chick crowed right after Keith🫣....twice... no...it couldn't be...Could it?...Pebbles? The Silver laced Polish GF of Keith? She has become a bit more chesty with her clutch mates, but she doesn't look like a Roo they way Keith does. Pics are attached...don't see the pointed feathers or horns or saddle/mullet...

Thoughts?

How old are they now?
Also…Pebbles doesn’t look like a Silver Laced Polish. He/she looks exactly like a Silver Spangled Appenzeller Spitzhauben.

😳they are both 11 weeks from same clutch. Breeder advertised as "assorted Polish-crested and laced"...but I have been wondering why her top hat isn't doing much as opposed to Keith's. The Appenzeller's are a similar breed, correct?

Yes Spitzhaubens are similar to Polish. Main difference in appearance is that they usually have more pointed crests that lean forwards, while Polish have much bigger crests.

I would tend to lean more on Pebbles being a cockerel.
I actually have 11 week old Appenzeller Spitzhaubens myself and the pullets don’t have wattles that big/red…Pebble’s wattles are smaller than the ones our cockerels have however. So he/she might be a quick developing pullet, I’m not sure. The tail looks pullet-like

I attached pictures of our 11 week old Spitzes below
The first is a pullet and the second is a cockerel

Oh, wow...yup. Guess that makes Roo#4🫨.
What kind of temperament does this breed have? It's my first time even attempting Polish, I'm more of a heritage breed gal, but I've had bantams and silkies, and chickens are definitely pets for us😍

Oh Spitzhaubens are the friendliest! They’re actually my favorite breed of chicken. I have many different breeds but they are by far the best! Their only flaw is that they hate being confined. Our main rooster who takes care of our flock is a Spitzhauben and he is super alert and literally takes off anytime he hears a sound of distress from the hens, takes care of them well! But he’s also super friendly with us, loves being around people! Never ever shown signs of human aggression. The hens are also super friendly and follow me around all the time. Gucci, one of our Spitzhauben hens, jumps on my shoulder every morning. They’re also small chickens so they consume less feed than most breeds. So that’s a plus!

So sorry for all the roosters you ended up with though! I know what it’s like… two of our previous hatches consisted of 8 roos/2 pullets and 7 roos/4 pullets…luckily our last one was better, 4 roos/6 pullets 😮‍💨

I saw pics of Spitz roosters...so cute!! We only put our birds in the coop/run at night bc we live out in the country and they would definitely get attacked by owls or raccoons, but they have an acre of yard with lots of shaded areas to free range frpm 7a-8p....Hope Ziggy is happy here! Thanks for your help🐔

Yeah, ours also have secure coops for the night! We have pretty much every chicken predator there is, even bears! They just need to be let out early in the morning or else they start whining 😂

Your setting seems great! I’m sure your chickens are happy 😊

Of course! Happy to help :)
