Did Mama Decide She Doesnt Want Her Chicks Anymore!!!!!

Note: the chicks are 4 week old


I got home from school and she wanted out of her pen, I let them all out and she took off without her chicks leaving them behind. I went and found her and she was with the main flock, And I started to pet her and she diddent make her usual mama broody growl noises! and she put her wings up ad wanted me to be a rooster, if ya know what mean..,,,, I put her chicks with my other mama hen until I find out whats going on with her.

Is this usually the time they abondon there chicks, I mean there feathered out, and I can tell ones a cockeral and ones a pullet.

Mother hens tend to abandon their chicks at 4-6 weeks old because they think the babies are "Ready" for the wild

Mine left her chicks at 10 weeks. Strange hen....

She diddent leave them, she came back 15 mins later. Maybe she wanted a break.

Shes a australorp. So there known for good mothering. My other broody is a game which there both awesome mommys

my hens would raise their chicks for 3 to 4 months or until they are ready to lay again

My white rock hen dumped poor baby solo at the age of 5 weeks, 2 days

she went back to regular life, and acted as of she had never seen her child before...
