Hey there,

I have two egg layers. On is a cream-colored bantam who lays whitish eggs, and one is a black colored hen who lays pinkish eggs (I don't know her breed). I check their nest religiously, every day after work and then a few more times before nightfall (I am just so in love with them!), and on days off, I check like a hundred times a day.

Anyhoo, yesterday I found two whitish eggs, same size, in the nest, and no pinkish egg. Didi my bantam lay two, or did my black hen lay a white egg for once?
What gives?

She is probably losing her pigment. not permanently, it will replenish. I have mostly brown egg layers and got one the other day that was almost white.

Above post is correct. My silkie who usually lays pinkish brown eggs laid a white one. after that it was back to pinkish brown.all eggs are white then pigment is added later in the process.if you notice you can scratch a fresh egg and you will see the white under it. don't worry her eggs will be pigmented again soon. Hope this helped
