Hi,

I just brought a hen inside to do an eye exam on account of white stuff in her eye. I am not sure what happened I just know she ran towards me instead of away with the others. (This isnt completely odd behavior some of the flock will greet me when Im feeding them difference here is I had my pup in training me). And on examination the white stuff was kind of solid and came out of her eye instead if wiping away. I set her in some water and she drank it up even bathed a little. She managed to jump out of the tub on her own and preen but after she got done shaking the water off she just kept spinning in circles. She was already blind in one eye from a fox attack but now Im not sure she can see at all. She stopped spinning when I sat her in my lap. Another odd behavior because unfortunately none of my ducks are the cuddly sort and I van only hold my drake whose lived in my bathtub for a year. I am not sure what exactly to do at this point. I will have to attach images once I get them on my computer.

She didn’t run away and is cuddly because she can’t see. Until you can get the pictures uploaded we won’t know for sure. Sometimes the eye is simply scratched and needs time to heal which can cause temporary blindness. Other times it is an infection of some sort. You mentioning the white being solid makes me think it is a canker.

I looked that up. How could a gastric issue end up in the eye? Is that still calling for antibacterial treatment?
