Did you always want chickens? Why did you get them?

I had them growing up then years later tsc sent a pamplet on chick days i went to see them and came home with 6 and 2 ducks then went back and grabbed weird looking cotton balls which where silkies then did reasearch and wanted to know the breed my black and white hens was at the time she was a wyandotte then seen they came in other colors so ordered gold and silver from chickensforbackyards then i bred my own and 10 years later have decendents from those. I got my geese because my mom had a mean one while i was growing up so was hoping they would be mean to her but i over snuggled them and they never where aggressive.

Any time you just "go to see" animals, you always end up bringing them home. That's how we got 2 dogs, a couple parakeets, a canary, and a Java finch. Strangely, not chickens, but by now, I know what'll happen if I "just look!"

I had never seen a chicken in real life until I was over 40. Chicken babysat for some neighbors. Fell in love. I cannot get enough. Luckily DH liked them (mainly the fresh eggs) enough to be ok w having some. We have 10. Will get a handful more next year. Deal was I will do all the caring for them since they were my project. He does the other outside work so I think that’s a fair trade!

Eventually I want a full homestead with ducks, goats, quail & a cow. Can’t do that with our current house. Maybe when I retire..:

Ducks are my true dream. But I love, love, love my chickens. ❤️
My husband has the homesteading bug BAD. He wants a farm, too, and I'm warming up to the idea ... but there's no way we could buy land any time soon.
Ducks are my true dream, as well. Adore my chooks, but, golly, I have adored ducks since I was a little girl, and I want ducks.
My husband has promised me that, if we buy land and it has a pond, we will get ducks. 🦆🦆🦆
And then I can have ducks AND chickens 😍

Yes, that's how we got our two cats, as well.
I've told my husband that I absolutely CANNOT go to a TSC during chick season. I am not to be trusted.
