Did you get made fun of/false rumors in High School ?

I can relate to your son...though it was a while back for me. I HATED HS! I told my mom I wanted to get my GED and just go to the community college. I figured since I was a good student, I could take my GEs there and transfer as a college student and not need my HS diploma. Well, her and I went back and forth (not arguing, just brainstorming and compromising) and we found a program through the county that let me go to the community college for my junior year of HS. I took college courses and got HS and college credit for them. It was great. I graduated the summer after junior year and NEVER looked back on HS (I transferred as a college student and my SAT/ACT scores were useless as I never needed them).

I honestly cannot blame your son for wanting to get out of there. HS students can be so mean and it leaves such a long-lasting effect on the recipients. I think it is something for you and your son to decide together, but ya'll are in my prayers.

trust me I know. After being the only guy in my college classes, they soon forgot my plumbing differed and let me tell ya folks, gals are meaner and more vulgar than a comparable room full of men. I've been in both!!!!

LOL! That's why most of my friends are guys!

I agree! A girlfriend of mine and I were talking the other day how we love working in a male-dominated industry (geology)! I LOVE working with men. I get them. I don't "get" women. I guess it makes sense since I was raised with a tomboy mom who works in engineering. Maybe that's why DH and I get along so well.

Yes, girls are cut throat mean sometimes. And women too. I was always a get over yourself girl in school. I never liked the drama queens and I was not scared to tell them how stupid they were either. Funny I can only remember one fight in Junior High, but when I asked the girl, who was a supposed friend why she wanted to fight me she said "I don't know, I guess cause I don't like you". I said Okay and I won't like you anymore either, So it was on in the girls locker room that day. It was so funny, it was like a wrestling match of submission holds LOL. Yes ... I will add mean girls to the film agenda!!
Edited to add:
I am the only female employee, sometimes the bosses wife comes in, but she is cool.

the difference between girls and boys is that if a boy dislikes you, he generally just says it to your face. if a girl dislikes you, she'll be nice to your face, but then talk about you, or maybe make a point of talking with your friends about a party that you weren't invited to while you are there. basically they undermine your self esteem and use emotional abuse, which boys don't tend to do as much.

Another gal here who has almost all male friends...
HS was hell! My best friend and I were the "lesbian satan worshipers" to everyone except a few close friends. First of all, if I were gay, I'd be proud and gay, and there would be no hiding it :p Also, as a successful adult, I still wear a lot of black, and I still don't eat babies :p
I think HS is horrible, no matter who you are, we all just deal with it differently. It's so true that girls that age (and older!) will stab you in the back, while males will be nasty to your face.

However, I'd encourage him to tough it out. Running away never helps anything.

I hated HS also. My mom FORCED me to walk across the stage and get my diploma. I hated HS so much that I just wanted to have my diploma sent in the mail.

If an adult woman harrassed another adult woman, called her names and ruined her reputation then that woman could be arrested on stalking charges. Yet we expect teens to handle the situation as a part of growing up.

I had issues that needed a transfer to another school, should've happened a year sooner than it did. That being said, it's holiday break right now, and by the time everyone's back in Jan, some other boy will have given a bad christmas gift and your son will be off the hook.

At 17 if he can get in early college may be an option, I started at 16 (most community colleges have a deal with local highschools allowing dual enrollments).

I took a direct route, the week I transferred schools I invited some new friends over. The largish target in the backyard and a fast demonstration of knife throwing skills helped immensely. (please note this method should only be used when you're certain of all bullseyes).
