Did you know grapes/raisins are toxic for dogs?

I just heard this from our vet the other day and had to do some more research. Folks, be careful with doggie treats - no more grapes or raisins. It can cause renal failure in dogs and be deadly.

My older brother feeds my dog raisins after I told them they were poison. Oh boy.

Yeah, I knew about caffeine and chocolate, but never heard of that with grapes before. Our last lab lived for 14 years with grapes as a treat. We've always used fruit as a treat with our labs to keep they're weights good. When the vet told me this I was shocked and surprised that we never heard it before. I know we won't feed them anymore, but wonder why it didn't affect our older dog. The vet did say they weren't certain, but it seemed like pretty good odds since the dogs that were dying had also consumed grapes/raisins.
