Did you know....

Thats scary we studied this in my Enviromental Policy class and its just gross. I really want to live off the grid when I get older the farm I worked on last summer is my model they spendo almost no $$ on anything! Maybe partially because they have no $$ to spend but they have everything they need to servive and can pay heating, electricity, water, and repairs on their house so they are good to go. They butcher and raise all their own meat and dairy on pasture and suger and use horses to do most of the plow work. Its like Amish without the religion and with electricity and farming. I LOVED working ther and hopefully I can have a place similar to Essex Farm when I am older.

Still, that kinda hit home on all the garbage food we buy. Too much!!!

I think the Cheerios thread just cured me of that!

I'm just hoping I remember that thread the next time I go shopping! I tend to forget these things when I see food and go shopping when I'm hungry.

Interesting about how much is actually spent of food items though.

Well for what it's worth, I actually saved all my receipts last year for one quarter. I included all the TP, soaps, etc. Bottom line -

I average $120 a week for groceries. (for 5 people)
I averaged about $12 a week for shampoos, soap, non-edibles.

In the 3 months I kept track I paid about $20.00 in sales tax. I was surprised that wasn't more.

So, if I just say $110 a week for 52 weeks that's like $5200. I'm rounding here.

Jiminey crickets, no one here earns that in 37 days! Wow! I guess I should be applying for food stamps.
