Cute chicks no i use the old red bulb. I know that can be an issue but it hasn't failed me. I'm a little obsessive with safety so that warmer would ease my mind a ton!

I save my money and use a Mother heating pad cave brooder. Much larger, less expensive, and MORE CLOSELY mimics Mama hen, can be used for other purposes when not brooding chicks, and it can be used in much colder temps than the heat plate.

It was brilliant. I had 7 Silkie chicks. No losses. Cardboard box in kitchen. It does look a bit mucky but they were cleaned out once a day.
Will use again.

LG, forgive my ignorance but is this just what it sounds like, make a cave out of a heating pad?
