Didn't float- is the egg dead?

My broody hen has been sitting on her (hopefully fertilized) egg for 25 days. I have been very concerned that there is not a chick growing inside, so I just did the water-float test. The egg dropped to the bottom of my container like a rock

. Does this mean that the egg is bad?

Rotten eggs float, so likely the chick died in the egg nearing hatching time.

I'm sorry to hear that. You could buy her some day-old chicks.
