Hi, I have successfully hatched 5 out of 9 eggs at hatching age, however number 6 pipped and zipped but then died. I opened her up hoping she was still okay in there and the membrane was slightly dryer but not enough to have shrink wrapped her and otherwise she seems perfect except dead. I’m concerned because another has pipped and I don’t want to loose that one too. The temperature is 37.8c and humidity at 74. I found at the end of my last hatch my babies pipped then died? Could the yolk from the previous babes be contaminating the air and killing the rest?

Thank you for your replies. The other pip had failed to zip so I assisted his hatch this morning. The membrane around the pip in the upper half of the egg (towards the air sack) was very dry and stuck to him unfortunately. So far he seems okay just a little put out by his rather rude introduction to the world. They started out under a mother hen, she is rather fickle and now on her 4th nest (she is banned from real eggs, and is confined only to plastic), could her abandonment in the early days (about 6 days) have affected them?

No..I'm thinking incubator..

I have to say I unfortunately agree. I had one pip yesterday night and it had not zipped by 6pm today so I just assisted its hatch, it is a lively one with a good set of lungs! I have attached an image of it in the shell. The inner membrane was thick and there was a gap between the inner and outer membranes. My humidity has not dropped below 65 since the hatch began, except for about 10 minutes before any had pipped and I raised the humidity again quickly (I had to add some abandoned eggs)
