To have the type of comb he has, he has to have a dominant gene for it. Pure australorps have a straight comb, which IS recessive already.

Edited to add: even if he’s not pure Australorp, I think he’s magnificent, and possibly mostly genetically australorp. Mind you, I won’t be claiming to show any registration papers, just having fun with my boutique backyard blends.

Oh, he's a very handsome bird, no doubt about it. And I think he'll make very handsome offspring with the BSL hen.

I need to get an Orp so I can make an Orpalorpe.

If I hatch any eggs next spring, it'll be a Buff Orp over black or blue Australorps, and I can't decide whether to call them Buff Aus (pronounce however you like), or Orpalorp.
