difference between RIR and production Red?

I agree with HappyMtn and WalkingWolf, the term "Production Red" is way over used in poultry today just like the term "Easter Egger". I think a better term for Rhode Island Reds you get from a hatchery or from hatchery stock is a "Industrial Red" or "Industrial Rhode Island Red" because they are or should be from RIR stock but there more productive and less likely to go broody than a RIR from a breeder who breeds to the Standard and not just productivity. There is a lot of nice traits that are being lost in the Hatchery Rhode Island Reds like a nice full black/green tail and the dark red edging in the hens, good tail spread, nice evenly rich red color, primaries convert feathers in the wing being black ,edged in red, brick shape body. There just some traits that are being lost in the RIR from hatcheries and in turn they are laying more eggs, not going broody as often and adjusts to confinement better than a heritage RIR and to me that would make them more a Industrial breed than a true heritage Rhode Island Red.
Now I am NOT putting down the Hatchery RIR's because they have there place in the poultry world just like the "Easter Egger", "Production Red" and the "Sex-Link" but just not as a
True Heritage Rhode Island Red...

In the early days of the Red breeders produced birds that were both bred to the Standard & also were productive. Then, gradually, productivity became less important to show breeders & the breed went in 2 directions. Production bred Reds are pure Reds that have been selected for productivity over appearance. Show type Reds just the opposite.
As far as I know there is no factual basis to the assertion that "Production Reds" are RIRxNHR crosses or even more unlikely RIRxLeghorn crosses.
