Differences

the black Marans (with an s, even in the singular) is black all over. The black copper has copper coloured feathers on the neck. The French variety also has feathered legs. They originated in a place called Marans in France. Breeders in other countries bred the feathered legs out of them, though sometimes you still get residual feathering in supposedly clean-legged varieties. They should all lay relatively dark brown eggs, but the black copper varieties are said to have the darkest strains.
