Different Colors of Buttons breeding together?

When breeding a normal wild to a silver you will get 100% normal all split to silver now if you breed those together you will get 75% normal 25% silver.

Okay fighting aside though. IF I put them together, will I get pure colors, it doesnt matter if they are the colors I currently own, but any recognizable color.

What I would REALLY like is silvers...

Your best chance for more silvers is to breed silver to silver. Depending on their backgrounds you could get anywhere from 25% to 100% silvers. I don't think you will get 100% for a few generation. As for mixing the different color you can get some very pretty birds from that and there are a lot of recognized colors that are mixes of 2 to 3 colors

But I will end up with ones that arent a color? I realize that some 'colors' are actually mixes, but if I let the different colors run together, will I end up with some 'I have no idea what those ares' or will they all be 'colors'?

I would say if you truly want to breed for quality and color get Garrie Landry's book on buttons. I find it full of great info. It is the only book on buttons I would trust

Im not sure if you are getting my question completely... (Im not sure If I am making sense.)


I am mostly asking, if the 3 colors are together, will I get colors?
ACTUAL COLORS/MUTATIONS ect.... or will I get birds that look like nothing else?


BTW: I really like his button site. VERY informative. I will definately think about getting his book.

Here is the answer you will get both. The first thing I would do is find out what colors they are throwing then you will have a better idea of what you will get when you mix them.

Thanks. I think I am going to put them together for now, (at least until they start laying eggs,) and see how they do.

Okay, I have one more question. If I get some 'I have no ideas,' and they breed true, is it a new variety?

Guess you would get to name it. Again I think putting them together is a bad idea watch them close they can really rip each other
