Hi, it's been a while since I hatched my flock in the incubator (2years old now). So we decided to let our broody golden top sit on 3 eggs (frizzle mum, silkies dad). I'm wondering why all 3 chicks are very different colours, sorry if silly question! They hatched 4 days ago and I've got one more broody sat on only 1 egg, at the moment the new mum is in a separate pen with her chicks, but can I also move the other broody and her egg in with her (due to hatch next weekend) or would the older chicks pose a threat to the newbie? First time letting the hens raise chicks. Thanks for any help. Pic of chicks, last 2 are mum and dad.

I have no clue how it works when you have moms around, and introduce babies and moms together...but this spring I got 4 chicks, two weeks later I got 2 more little chicks- all of them were various breeds. The hatchery told me that they would be fine together and they were. BUT they were all in a brooding box- no moms in sight. As far as the chicks all looking different.. maybe recessive genes came out from the mom and pop? I have two Blue Jersey Giants and was told if they have babies I would get a variation of blues, splash and black, Hope this helps.
