difficulty installing fan in hovabator

As you can see from this photo, the thermostat is where the instructions and videos direct fan placement. What should I do?

mount it below the thermometer, it should have standoffs included to space it off the styrofoam, you'll have to drill your holes, the fan will need to blow upward toward the thermometer.

It doesn't have any standoffs, or anything except what you see. I installed it below the thermometer and it seems that the fan just blows on the raised edge styrofoam that the thermostat is recessed in.

should of been some 1/2 inch standoffs included with the fan kit (there are in all of them i've bought for the Hova-bators).

this allows the air to blow out between the fan and the styrofoam.

I saw them in the installation videos, but none came with my kit. The styrofoam tape is on the fan assembly that I screwed on. Dangit.

I can't give you an exact list of supplies for your install but I can give you a general idea of what you need...

Go to the hardware store and get a section of plastic sink supply line, some #6 or #8 machine screws/nuts of the appropriate length and some #6 or #8 fender washers... The length of the screw will be dependent on how thick the foam is, the length of the spaces your cut with enough left to washer and nut the fan...

Cut the sink supply line into the appropriate length spacers, feed the screw through the fan through he spacer and through he top of the incubator and mount...

This is the poly sink supply (riser) line you need for the spacer, it's much cheaper to buy one of these and cut to length vs buying already done spacers... It cuts easily with a razor if you just roll it a bit...

i just made it back to a PC rather then on my phone, looking at your pic the standoffs are built into your fan, all you need to do is secure it to the top of the incubator with the foam tape. the screw in the top of the fan goes in the slot in the thermometer (it has a key-hole slot for it), the hole allows the air to get to the thermometer for an accurate reading so make sure it blows into the thermometer opening too.

After a second look I agree, as built in thermometer, I recommend the built in thermometer be totally ignored, even painted or covered with tape so you have no choice but to ignore it as they are junk and far from accurate...
