Dig holes for posts in run or no?

I’ve seen so many different run designs. Some have posts buried underground and others do not. I will of course have wire buried either way to protect my flock. Is it necessary to have posts underground? What do you prefer?

We dug and set our run posts with concrete to ensure stability and long term durability. We buried our hardware cloth about 18 inches deep so it wasn't a huge deal to dig for the posts too

I didn’t bury my posts. They are 4x4” PT sitting on concrete blocks that are 8” wide by 16” long and 4” thick.
