My chickens are going on two years old and they have a new habit. Their coop has a dirt floor covered in straw. This weekend I've stood watching them dig down in the ground. They're not hungry unless there is something they need besides the feed and grass clippings I've been adding. Any ideas?

Mine do that too. My husband said they dig up the dirt and take a dirt bath to get clean. I also see them do it if there nesting boxes litter is dirty they make a hole to nest in. Maybe theyre bored too. Try throwing in some apples or something they can peck around on.

Today instead of laying in their nests everybody decided to lay their eggs in one of the holes. Guess they decided they needed a new nest. LOL

Try adding some golf balls or ceramic eggs after you clean out there nest. They just up and forget sometimes lol.
