You can dim the compact flo's. I have them in my strip lights in the living room. The key is buying the kind that say "dim able"

Based Only on What i have read, and i have read alot to make up for my complete lack of experience, You want to add hours of daylight in the morning, not the evening. That Being said they installed a store bought poultry timer in 1956 to probably do what you are after today. My Coop as built originally is 32' x 28' and i partitioned off an area 12' x 24' for the 36 layers i have.
Like i said earlier about my Complete lack of experience. That is ALLOT of eggs, I never did the math or even thought about it. 200 to 300 eggs per year per "happy" hen. Do the math and laugh with/at me. Good Lord i thought i was prepared and they all havent even started to lay yet!
