So I’ve been playing with these color calculators off and on this season. I like it, but I keep getting hung up because I don’t know the definitions as well as I should yet and the photos on the calculators are not great to compare to real birds…forgive me for asking repeated questions about this topic if it’s annoyed anyone…
so anyways … I bred and embden gander to a group of buff females and embden females. Obviously the embden x embden are white birds (or mostly white anyways these are hatchery quality so there’s a grey feather here and there).
The Embden x Buff gets a little more interesting. The calculator says male offspring are “dilute” and females are “dimorphic”. Does this mean males are buff and females mostly white or spotted? I have some photos below to give an idea what the birds look like. I put arrows going to different looking goslings.
I understand buff is dilution of grey. But what is dimorphic? Just differences between male/female?
