Dirt butt on hen

I have a hen with a very very dirty butt. Stuff all down the downy feathers. It looks like poo. I have noticed that she looks as though she is straining to poop. Can she be egg bound? How can I tell if she is?

if it is poop. then u have to take peel it off. i can cause her to be constapated and she can die from constapation.

A nice warm bath on her bottom will help if she is easy to handle. Not only will it relax the vent, it will also help to get things cleaned up so you can determine what is going on.
