Dirt for chicks?

Can chicks eat dirt? I got some near their new coop (still in brooder) and they went crazy pecking and getting in it. I want edit for dust baths but it looked like they eating treats. Is it normal?

It's normal, chickens explore the world around them by putting it in their mouths. As long as they don't completely gorge themselves on it it's not a problem.
