Hey All! So we enclosed our coop with chicken wire we had got for free, and of course we look outside later on and those stinkers are still small enough to fit through 🤦‍♀️. We don’t have the money to buy something smaller so I start looking around and see what I could craft together. We just dug a little pond for our ducks so I took that and made them a makeshift wall, about a foot tall. That got me thinking- had anyone tried doing this? If so have they tried mashing some bird seed on the chicken side (the dirt is only walled up on the outside of the wire), during summer if I hose down the outside of it could that be a way to help them stay cool? The chickens enjoyed foraging on it so much I’m hoping to see if I can get some sprouts to get going. I know it will possibly be a constant maintenance upkeep with the dirt, but like I said- I dug a whole pond for my ducks so I’ll have dirt for a while. Thanks for all input in advance.

Your post is slightly confusing to me. I have yet to see a chick get thru chicken wire. :idunno Maybe you have something different, and are calling that Chicken Wire.
In the future,,, your chickens will grow,, so I don't see them being able to get thru whatever wire you currently have. The earth barrier should provide a good ground securement. Throw some grass seeds to reinforce from erosion.

WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and:welcome
