Dirty ducks & no room to swing a cat

Wait, they wait????
My dummies jump in with not even an inch of water and wonder why it was so far to hit water and why it hurt to jump in! Then play in what ever little bit of water is in there. They have no concept of wait

They wait only beacuse Im there telling them to wait but if I walk away they jump in there in a second. I like it when they WAIT and all dive in the clean pool and with in 30 seconds they all poop and its clean no more

Thats why its sooo much easier to have plastic kids pools, specialy when it comes to emptying and moving them, they still get to have a bath and a splash about and POOP, so yes folks, you go right ahead and buy your nice big stock tanks and huge plastic ponds, Ill but my ducks the $3.33 pools from K mart by the dozen and I KNOW my ducks will use them

I wish I only had the mess of two!! I put some 4 weeks olds outside today- and they can stay out- but I still have about 30 aged from two weeks down to one day old. I sure wish we could get $3.33 pools here. Ours start at about $20 each for the clam shell type ones. I buy news ones each summer- its the ducks Christmas present each year.

Ive seen the clam shell ones over here for more than $30 so for the not so ridged pools for cheeper the price, means more pool, means more mud, means more mud holes. Oh the things we do to keep our ducks happy.

I also use kiddie pools. Love the one with the slide, because they do use it. The drake likes to stand on top playing king duck. He then either slides down or jumps in. I've build decks around the pools and little stair cases going up. They love and use it. Right now they are going into the meadow, where we have a seasonal stream. They will be using that until it dries up and then it is back to kiddie pools. BTW all my pools have ball valve drains. Beats the lifting and prolongs the live of the pools. That way a pool should last at least 2 years. My pools are out all year round, with or without water. Even in winter they are out there, just flipped over so nothing can fall into them.

I also use old towels in the brooder. Works like a charm. Simply shake them out outside, and drop into the wash machine. I do not use softener or softener sheets on them. I don't think the smell is toxic, but I don't that ducks need that either. Especially when they are so tiny, and ducks do have sensitive lungs. All I do is dump vinegar into the rinse cycle. That will remove any soap residues in the fibers. Best is will remove lime deposits in your wash machine and make it life longer.

Close! It's Gerber. He's doing well. Finally got the new duck house finished to the point that they can sleep in it. All the boys go in at night time. Don't even have to bribe them with treats anymore. Thanks for asking! I just love reading your posts especially since I know you are raising some of Gerber's Metzer siblings.

I knew Guber didnt sound right...sorry Gerber. When it was dark of a night Nov to Jan the ducks went right up of a night, now the days are getting longer I have to round every one up and they all sit and chatter at the bottom of the stairs to decide whos going up first, I think they take turns about each night, but Sly fat butt is always last up the stairs.
I let the babies out in the big yard this morning and they went straight out the gate to the human yard so they could get under the tarp round the bale, I finished feeding and put the ducks on THEIR side of the fence, when I left for town an hour later, I was going down the drive and looked in my rear view mirror and there was 2 of them out nder the tarp, I had to go back up the drive and put them back in. Stoopid ducks were playing ....lets see who could make the most ghost noices under the tarp
