Dirty eggs

Lately all of the eggs have all been filthy. I was wondering if we should use a different bedding or if it’s a larger problem?

What is your bedding? Most of the time that isn’t an issue. Has it been raining where your at or are any chickens breaking eggs in the nest?

what do you keep on the nest boxes for bedding?
do they have a run or are they confined?
if they only have a poopy muddy mess to walk around in, they will carry this on there feet up to the nest boxes and onto the eggs in those boxes.

..and are they roosting(sleeping) in the nests and pooping in them?

All the comments above, plus, have you checked your chickens vents to make sure they're fairly clean? Some of my girls tend to get poopier butts than others, and some of that can end up on eggs. One of my hens requires trimming every so often to keep the build up down.

I use shavings for bedding and they seem to sleep elsewhere but we replaced the bedding and the eggs seem fine now
