Hi all, my first post here!

Kind of a silly question, but my chicks feet are soooo dirty! They free range, and love it in all sorts of weather. It has been wet and muddy here and their feet are gosh-awful filthy. Needless to say, we are getting some dirty eggs. Does anyone have a clever way of getting chicks to "wipe" their feet when they come in?

LIke those things farmers use at their back doors to clean the mud off their boots?

Shoes?

A little foot soak right before bed, and knitted sleeping socks.

How about a little tray with a tiny bit of water that they have to walk through to get into the coop?

Cute! The hen looks like she's enjoying the attention.

I hope he doesn't put that toothbrush back in the bathroom, though!

I'd try the "Embarrassment method"...Sing them one of the Summer camp favorites..

Great big gobs of greasy grimmy gopher meat, mutilated monkey parts...little birdies dirty feet...eat em with a spoon and not a fooooork..!!

*lyrics cleaned up a bit

We have a shallow livestock bowl near the door to the run, with about 1.5" water in it. Our hens are water babies, have been since we got them and so long as I have some clean shavings between the bowl and the door, they come in quite clean. I mean, who knew? They love a foot soak before coming in!
