I brought three beautiful 8 week old Seramas today and then noticed their toes were caked with I assume dried poop? I had to soak each chick in warm water and work pretty hard to remove. Their nails weren’t visible at all.

So bummed, I like this breeder but that has to mean pretty dirty living conditions, right?

I know how important healthy feet are. I treated bumblefoot in a friend’s flock and thankfully haven’t had it in mine- so this seems not ok to me.

I know bumblefoot has a different cause- just saying- I’m pretty shocked.

I would assume it's pretty dirty there since whatever this was, was caked on and dried on.

If they'd gotten into the mud, that's nothing new, and assumes they were out in a run or free ranging, but that usually comes off as they walk around to cleaner areas. Unless their run was all muddy/dirty?

Regardless, the vast majority of us who sell chicks wouldn't have sold them looking like that!
