I have 4 keets that bout July 30th so between 6-7 weeks…. Had them in a kennel, upgraded to a cage and it is NASTY….. I couldn’t keep up with trying to keep the area cleaned week enough…. And these birds are filthy with waste all on their legs…. The only thing I know to do is at try doing one…. Using the blow dryer and than placing them either in a larger cage or I can place them with some older keets I have (4) that might be a month older…. I thought they were only two weeks older but they have grown a lot since being moved to temporary pen outside next to my chickens…. I’m actually having some one come tomorrow to help secure a stall in my barn as a roost/coop for them u till they are of age to be released and come and go as they please

I can’t imagine I could just leave them as is…. I certainly don’t want them covered in their own waste because it could ever dry. The situation is rather

Any suggestions if I just do partial bathing or maybe damp towel and dryer? I do have heat pet pad if necessary as well….. I’m Texas, it’s hot and sultry right now….

I wanted to update in case anyone is ever questioning either to wash or not wash keets…. Mine are at least 6 weeks…. And I did go ahead after the first one did really well to wash as minimally as possible…. Using a wet towel if necessary instead…. I blow dried all of them and let them stay cuddled together on a dry towel in small pet taxi…. And Thank Heavens they are fine! .

I read everyone’s previous suggestions and advice and washing them is not something I wanted to do at all…. It was purely out of necessity for their health.

But for any of you who are sure there are various methods to use or maybe just doing a partial clean up… hope this helps someone else in this situation.

And I did go ahead after the first one did really well to wash as minimally as possible…. Using a wet towel if necessary instead…. I blow dried all of them and let them stay cuddled together on a dry towel in small pet taxi…. And Thank Heavens they are fine! .

Late to the party, sorry. I have always washed the feet of young keets daily with coconut oil. That and cleaning brooder consistently relieved most issues.
As they got older but still in brooder there have been times that necessitated a bath, as my brooder is inside.I used baby shampoo, worked fast, and blow dried w/o issues. Sometimes I can get away with a quick wipe with a warm cloth
I have one that lived inside til she was 6 months or so. Our routine included a shower abt every 2 weeks as needed. She was accustomed to and enjoyed it, stretching her neck out to let the water run down.
Glad it worked out for you.

I love the coconut oil idea!! I also hadn’t thought of. Baby shampoo really like that idea better than what I did. Mine really enjoy the blow dryer as well…. Stretching out the legs and even laying back to enjoy. Quite hilarious. My younger group of keets just get so nasty… I can’t keep anything clean and then flies become so intense…. So they have remained clean so far, but I do think maintaining the feet and legs is a great idea. I do not have them in a brooder because I’m on the border in S Texas…. And additional heat sources are just not necessary. When I tried to place them in one after their first week I couldn’t even get them all in there without them flying out

And thanks for experience, it’s very helpful…. I was very l early to do this because originally there were six…. However, two were not thriving and tried everything… pasty butt with one and the other started with pasty butt and turned into a protruding vent…. It was a lot of work, but I didn’t want to give up.
