Hey so our little lady here Dauphine has a dirty vent and I haven't seen any bad looking poops. I did refer to one of the articles on poops to make sure I knew what was a good poop vs not good. My wife is thinking a round of Corid to make sure it isn't coccidia. We did just have 115 degree days this past weekend, but we did a heck of a job keep them as comfortable as possible and she has had an icky butt in the past. I was going to start with another warm water soak to clean it up. What are your thoughts? I have attached photos

I tried to wash but isn't coming clean enough and I believe she is also laying super soft to mush eggs. Should I cut it out

Trim back only a little fluff and feathers, then wash her rear end off. If you cut too much, urates in feces will scald her skin causing feather loss. Then her rear end will become red, swollen and irritated.

We've found that if we give too many table-scrap treats, sometimes one or more of our girls will get the runs and cause this.

When this happens, we use a 2-man team to clean up the vent area with one person on their knees to provide a "pocket" to keep the hen's head in freeing that person's hands to gently hold her body near her legs to gently lift her backside up. The other person uses a light water flow to clean the poo off by wetting it and letting it fall way, directing all water toward the ground so as not to soak the bird.

Once all is clean, we gently towel off the hen's backside and send her on her way. Watch over the next few days to be sure "the runs" were temporary...
