I've been meaning to post Daffy's story for some time. Here's the story of my 8 year old crested Rouen.

Crested ducks were my first ducks. I had no idea they could have neuro issues. It was clear Daff was having trouble from day 2. Before I realized nothing could be done he was in my heart.

Other than having extremely poor balance he's a normal drake. He can’t stand or walk on his own. He eats, drinks, poops and quacks like a completely normal duck. He is so strong he can fly out of my hands if I'm not careful.

He's lived his whole life in the house, with a view of the outside through my patio doors. We have discussions whenever I walk in the room, he's very talkative. He has a harness for walks so I can keep him upright. He can actually run once he gets going. Sort of like a person on a bicycle.

I know people will freak out but he loves sausage pizza. When he smells pizza he goes crazy. I just can't deny him. Diet gurus don’t freak out too much, his normal diet is duck pellets.

I try and hold him on a regular basis, he either sits in my lap or stands on my lap with his head over my shoulder and naps. So cute. He's a cheeky little guy and goes after the dogs when he's in my lap. He also HATES stuffed animals. He seems very afraid of them but instead of running, in typical Daffy style he attacks.

On the down side he has to live on bath towels. He can't get enough grip on shavings. I do more duck laundry than human laundry.

The other down side, he's a normal drake with normal drake drives. He thinks I'm his girl and grabs my hand like he'd grab his love interest. His bite is very strong. In the spring I walk around with duck bite bruises on my hands. He's the only animal on the farm that's allowed to bite.

So that's the rundown of my Daffy. I thought you duck lovers might want to know there is a crazy duck lady that is actually crazier than you.

The photo is not good. He's actually very vibrant and shiny right now.

Daffy obviously was destined to be in your life and you in his. You know his needs, take care of him, love him and he knows this and loves you in return - sometimes a little too much ;)

Such a sweet story and he looks ever so cute.

Speedy would sit on my right shoulder when I'm driving, and if i stopped for mcd ice cream cone - she'd snatch at it and eat it with me. She'll also take bites of my sugar free popsicles.
