Disappearing Chicken

I have two chickens at this time. Have had them both for over a year. I went on vacation for a week and had someone someone stay to house sit. Last night away he told me that one chicken was missing. I came home and assumed a predator snagged her. NINE days later she showed up and was fine. That night she disappeared again. Came back three days later. I locked them both in the coop for three days. Let them out yesterday and she’s gone again. I should mention that they do free range. Any ideas with what’s up with her? No rooster so no fertilized eggs she’s hiding somewhere.

She may be sitting on unfertilized eggs; that they're not fertile wouldn't keep her from being broody.
