Disappearing eggs (not sure if this is the right heading)

When my Delaware girls started laying, about 2 months ago, I placed all 6 of my ceramic eggs in their nest boxes. About a month ago I noticed that there were only 4 left. This was about the same time that I discovered a small family of skunks living under one of my sheds -- but they've since been dispatched. Then one of the 4 got involved in a "fracas" with a real egg that got cracked, so it got thrown out with the nest box bedding and everything else, leaving 3. Today, I'm down to 1 ceramic egg and I noticed that my broody only had 2 eggs in her box instead of the 3 she had a couple weeks ago.

Any idea what's going on in that coop?

It sounds like you have an egg thief that needs to be trapped.

I had this happen once to me. I set out a live trap. I trapped a rat and a skunk. After that, I didn't loose any of my eggs.

I lost several eggs to a snake that had set up house in my neighbors shed.
Till she had somebody remove the snake I lost at least one egg every couple of days!
