Disappearing Eggs

Ok, so my silkie finally came off her nest for the first time in over a week, lucky I peeked in while she was off the nest... when she went broody, she had 8 eggs & today she only has 5... ??? Can anyone explain this? Did she eat them?

Sometimes hens will eat or remove bad eggs. Sometimes other birds will eat their eggs when they get off. And sometimes predators like rats eat them. Other times they can get kicked out of the nest and get lost in the bedding.

she must have ate them, there’s no way her mate would let any type of predator in the coop or around her, yeah I checked the bedding, nothing but 5 left so I hope to keep them
