Disciplining Noisy Hens?

Our chickens are crazy loud too. It seems like the first 3-4 months they were silent. And then one day they just started getting really vocal. In those 3-4 months of almost silence, we aquired 9 hens though! Oops! I kind of wish we had stuck with our original 6, because I'm afraid it's going to get really out of control and the neighbors will complain. (We don't really mind the noise except when they wake us up in the morning)

Lol mine are always noisy. Sometimes I'll hear them just walking around the garden complaining and bwacking like they're neglected and cooped up in tiny cages instead of free ranging around a lush garden with tasty things to eat.
I just hope the new chicks won't pick up the noisiness!

Maybe they're making happy noises, and you're misinterpreting them...

This may be a dumb suggestion, but have you carefully checked them over for injuries? Lice, mites, illness, etc.? It's possible they ARE complaining, but you're misinterpreting why. If they're uncomfortable for some reason, such as heat or itchies, then they might be vocalizing their discomfort.

Not to suggest you don't take care of your chickens - I'm just saying there might be an underlying medical reason for excessive squawking. Just a thought.

I haven't, but I believe they are fine. I notice one tends to start, the other joins in... it often follows the appearance of a member of my family.
