I let my hens out to free range for a while this evening and I noticed that my buff Orpington's comb is purple at the tips and back of her comb. She's one year old and I don't know why it's like that. There aren't any little bumps or other anything on the outside it's just that the comb is a purplish color from the inside.
If anyone knows what it is or what is the problem please help! I'll also try to get pictures. Thanks!

I noticed my BO hens were like that after winter... Maybe you just didn't notice until now? I know they can get frost bite on their combs.

It was a little tender during the winter, but lately it's been in the lower 90s and higher 80's. I have been busy lately so it could have been there a while too.

I bet that's what it is... I have a bantam leghorn roo n you can see his comb is discolored from the cold because it wasn't that color in the fall. My BO hens are slightly purple at the tips too. The only thing I've seen different about combs that is a disease is avian pox. Google that its like black dots on the comb... But I'm pretty much a newbie so there's still a lot to learn.

Any help is appreciated. I saw avian pox in another thread so I don't think it's that. I'll keep an eye on her and hopefully it's just an after winter thing. Thanks!

I have a Buff Orpington with the same thing currently, she had it before...went away & now it's back. She seems to be eating, drinking and laying fine. I'm going to investigate this, if I find out I'll be sure to let you know.

OK Thanks! Mine seems to be eating, drinking, and laying normally too.
