Hi! I noticed my pekin having discoloration around his eye for the past month, i’ve been keeping his deep water bowl and pools clean so he can clean it and he did a bit and i tried using warm wet rag and eyedrops to clean it myself but it is hard and im not sure what it is or how to fix it.. i dont want to hurt him or stress him by rubbing around his eye more without knowing if it’ll hurt or if it’s an infection.. any answers/advice is much appreciated! thank you :) sorry the images are blurry

Hi.

I noticed my pekin having discoloration around his eye for the past month,

If you could give as many details as possible about your boy, it would be easier to understand what is going on here...

• How old is your drake?

• What do you feed him exactly?
And does he have an unlimited access to his food - even during the nights?
(What about grit?)

• Does he have an unlimited access to his drinking water - even during the nights?

• How big is his pen?

• What do you use as his bedding?

• Doe your drake freerange during the days?
(Does he have access to grass?)

• How many ducks do you have?
What about your "hens per drake" ratio?

• Have you looked at your drake to see if he would not be underweight...?

• Is your drake plumage still entirely waterproof?

• Have you noticed any change in behaviour with your drake?
Does he look lethargic? Tired, sick, depressed... hurt, perharps?

• Has your drake been bullied recently?

Please, answer these questions.

(And if you think about something I did not ask about, do share it with us... EVEN if you think it would be useless, stupid, or whatever...!)

i dont want to hurt him or stress him by rubbing around his eye more without knowing if it’ll hurt or if it’s an infection..

I would think that a yellow discarge around the eye indeed means your drake has an infection...(?)

any answers/advice is much appreciated!

I would start by isolating the boy from his friends, so he would not contaminate them with whatever he is suffering from...

I would then give him some ACV.

(If you want, you can give ACV to your other ducks too!!)

...I would put : 1 tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar per liter of water, in a PLASTIC waterer.
(NEVER put Vinegar in a metal waterer!!)

I would make the boy drink it for 24 to 48 hours... during which I would not let him have access to his pool, so to be sure he drinks his ACV-water mix.

I would also mix some thyme with his food, so to boost his immune system.

sorry the images are blurry

Do you think you could take and post better pictures...?
