Discovered a "mini egg" in my nesting box

I have 7 Red Sexlink hens.. Discovered a very small egg in the nesting box.. All have been laying pretty well recently. What causes this??

I'd say its just a little blip in the egg producing system of one of them - and more than likely a one-off. I've had the same in my flock.
