Disease Testing???

Hello,
How would one go about testing their chicken flock for a disease that has similar characteristics to Marek's or Marek's itself? I did a little research and only found that the bird had to be dead to test for Marek's.

I have to do a marek's test also, as I can't sell my birds guilt free without it. I'm sending a dead bird to Texas A & M, but from what I read they don't have to be dead. You can use a blood sample or, from what I read, even a feather follicle.
