Disenfecting your coop?

How do you sanitize your chicken run? I’m moving a larger flock into my large house/coop and moving my first small flock into the smaller coop... what can I use that isn’t harsh but will sanitize the wood inside the coop?

As far as chemical cleaners, Simple Green is one of the safest for pets, and pretty effective. It's listed as being antibacterial.

Why would you need to sanitize?
Was there some disease involved?
Really best not to use any type of 'cleansers' around chickens,
they have very sensitive respiratory systems.

What is the floor like? I wouldn't get the walls wet unless they were really, really filthy. I usually do an annual deep cleaning where I get a short broom and "dust" all of the window sills, rafters, walls, corners, etc. The walls are wood so aside from dusting, I don't bother them. The floor is covered with solid plastic so if there's any poop dried on I wash it off with water and an old toilet wand I use as a brush and put in new litter. If for some reason there was a poop build up on the wall, I'd use water and my brush again. I don't really think there's a need to do this, but I like to spoil my birds with a clean home. They even have chicken-themed curtains that they don't really give a cluck about.

Why? It's not possible to really sanitize wood, certainly not enough to remove any disease present. most of us shovel things out, and scrape off the 'big hunks', and call it good enough. You don't want to add water to unsealed wood, or have a coop damp.
Commercial facilities practice an 'all in, all out' method, and have sealed concrete or other sealed walls, and power wash the whole place with disinfectants between flocks. Great for them, not practical for us, especially if we aren't depopulating every bird on the property.

I use this general cleaning recipe for the coop, roosts, and nest boxes:

Using a funnel, in a 32 oz. spray bottle, mix:

2 cups white vinegar
2 cups distilled water
20 drops lemon essential oil
20 drops peppermint essential oil
10 drops thyme or tea tree oil

Shake well and clean away!
