We had to cull our flock after battling a respiratory illness. I know that we have to wait two months before we can repopulate the coop but if we disinfect the feeders and waterers can we use them for our next batch of baby chickens in two weeks? If so, what are the proper disinfecting procedures?

What were their symptoms and did you get any testing or a necropsy? MG and coryza are only infective in the environment for about 3 days. I would use 10% bleach water and dish soap to clean and disinfect any equipment, then let it dry thoroughly. Sorry about having to cull your flock. That has got to be an awful experience, but you did the right thing to control the disease.

It was very hard for us. We never thought we would be so attached to chickens.
We tried treating them for a while, one was strong and healthy and became a great layer. The others were still sick. Throughout treating them we had all kids of symptoms...lethargy, sneezing, coughing, smelly yellow nasal discharge, diahrrea, one closed eye and heavy breathing.

If you have a diagnosis, you will be able to find out how safe your environment will be in the future. I would bleach everything and still wait the appropriate time before bringing new birds home. Don't go through this experience twice!!! Mary
