Washing them will remove oils, but a one time clean up shouldn't be too bad.
What's your weather like? If it's cold outside, you will want to wash her where it's warm(ish) and dry her very well before she's back outside. A hairdryer can be used to dry the feathers. It takes a while to do, but they seem to like it.
She may just have mud on the outer feathers, so I would get a shallow tub or dish pan, put some warm soapy water in it, stand her up and then proceed to clean those muddy feathers. You may not have to completely soak her, just depends on how much mud there is. She may be agreeable, she may not...just depends on the hen
