He can move around and pushes himself around with the other 2 chicks on his knee and sometimes on his foot if he can get a grip on the shavings.( had them on a non slip mat until they were running laps around their 90 gallon brooder box, about 4 days old, then put shaving on top of the mat.) I tried tying his legs together to make a hobble that forces his leg back in but it always falls off and he panics whenever he wears it. He has been like that since he was 3-5 days old. He is now 7 days He is fine other than that tho... Will he grow out of it? Please Somebody answer soon!
Thanks

have you found this site yet? its very good. https://sites.google.com/a/poultrypedia.com/poultrypedia/poultry-podiatry
i dont know anything about hip dislocation, i would have just guessed splayed leg. but it doesn't look like anything that your bird is going to grow out of.
i'd try the leg hobbles again, but i know how difficult it is.
if nothing works, you'll have to use your best judgement to decide whether to cull or not. i had a silkie chick with a slipped achilles tendon & nothing i tried worked. but, she never seemed to be in pain, and as a 4 month old now, she keeps up with her flock pretty well hopping on one leg.
i hope it works out for you. i was so stressed when my chick was going through her stuff....

oh excellent! hope it works out!
they say to leave the hobbles on longer than you think you need to. i was impatient with mine, and while i don't think it would have helped anyway, being that she had a different problem, i really should have given it longer instead of rushing to take them off to see if it was working.
