How did this happen? -
I'm not sure how it happened, possibly running into a fence? The female guinea has been laying on some eggs and the male has been extra grouchy, chasing everyone around. I just noticed her beak today when I was filling everyones waters.
How long has she been like this? -
1 day, 2 at the most.
Is it possible that she was born like this (with a crossed beak) and you are just now seeing it develop? Sometimes as small chicks, it can go unnoticed and develop slowly over time. Crossed Beak is a genetic deformity.
I'm 99.9% sure she wasn't born this way and has been eating normally, today she couldn't pick up any food but was trying desperately.
To help her eat, wet her chick starter - sometime this is much easier to "scoop" than trying to pick up individual crumbles.
