I orderd 17 chicks from Cackle 6 weeks ago. Shipping date was yesterday-5am so I expected to get the call from the post office this morning. I waited till 9 am and gave Cackle a call to see if they had shipped. Lady there said they shipped yesterday morning but I wont get them until tommorrow. Cackle is only 2 1/2 hours from me!!!! I asked why would it take so long and supposedly...theres only one mail truck that leaves from Springfield, MO to Oklahoma...? I hope my babies will be ok after waiting that long...

If I had known this I would have just driven to pick my chicks up! Ok...rant over...

Wow, I don't blame you for being upset, that is just rediculous. But, that is our wonderful postal system. They should be fine though. I would call your PO and make sure you let them know they are coming and you want them to call you when they get in. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Thanks chicken mom! I did call the PO yesterday so they know they are on the way.

If it's that close why not drive up?

And they should be fine. My chicks are in the mail 2 days before I get them.

I so understand.I just paid 4x what Priority would have cost me for Express shipping on some more expensive chicks...580 miles that's all They left Tues morning and got here today at 5:30 yeah that's some fast express mail...Priority mail would have been here today as well...and the person refuses to claim the refund on the shipping

Have had some travel 2400 miles in 14 hours twice so I now know closer to home you buy them the longer it takes to actually get them

Your little chicks should be fine.I have had them in the mail up to 4 days-those are much more stressed though
Enjoy your fluffy butts

On a side note, there is nothing more motivated than a postal employee/office that is sitting on a 3 pound box of live bees. Too bad chicks weren't a tad more aggressive.

When your chicks are hatched they still have the yolk sack attached to them. They can go 2 or 3 days w/o food or water & be just fine. This yolk is why so many have been successful with shipping day old chicks.

Not to worry. Though keep in mind any batch will have weak chicks so some may not make it anyway - even if they were shipped faster.

That is no consolation though.

I have ordered from Cackle too and live about 3 hrs away, they come through just fine after the trip, I have had good experiences with healthy chicks...just warm 'em up right away and give them some warm sugar water and feed....I haven't had any problems or lost any chicks ordering from them and they always put in some extra's. Good luck, you should be fine.

They are here! All are alive and well. I got one extra Wyandotte and I think an extra leghorn. All are eating, drinking, and milling around
